Finger Lakes Health is home to the Marion S. Whelan School of Practical Nursing (MSWSPN), which offers an LPN certificate. We are one of only three hospital-based nursing programs in New York State. Founded in 1956, we have graduated over 1,800 nurses.
Marion S. Whelan School of Practical Nursing (MSWSPN) offers a program that is beneficial to the learner seeking a career as a license practical nurse. Students attend during the day, Monday – Friday for ten months. This is a 1080 clock hour program and when students graduate they receive a Certificate of Practical Nursing and are fully prepared to take their NCLEX exam for licensure.
Students in the program attend classes and start participating in clinical rotations in the first semester. This allows for immediate application of knowledge and skills obtained in the classroom and laboratory by caring for actual patients. Observational experiences may be conducted in long term care, medical surgical and a ventilator unit.
Finger Lakes Community College (FLCC), one of our educational partners, provides General Education (Liberal Arts) courses at both the Geneva and Canandaigua campuses. Full time matriculated students have the option of taking general education courses through FLCC.
After graduation from MSWSPN students find our college level curriculum prepares them thoroughly to continue their education, including becoming RNs through our MSWSPN/FLHCON (1+1) program at Finger Lakes Health College of Nursing & Health Sciences also located on the same campus.
Our faculty and staff are innovative, creative and engaged in advancing the knowledge and skills to improve the delivery of health care. The School faculty and staff embody the Finger Lakes Health organizational values of:
